The cooperative Valdivianos sin Basura has developed a wide range of activities and stimulated the sector of waste recycling, which is still very new to the region. In addition to raising public awareness through workshops and educational events, the organization has set up a recycling centre that recycles waste oil and converts it into an energy source. It also operates a composting facility, among other activities. Not only have the efforts succeeded in mobilizing volunteers, but they have also led to the creation of some new jobs.
The goal is to make the solutions Valdiviano has developed for the problem of waste management viable and reproducible throughout Chile and even beyond.
With the support of the Jansen PrimeSteps Foundation, new job opportunities and livelihoods have been created in this sector, which remains economically underdeveloped
