Poverty reduction through entrepreneurial training
Siaya County, located at around 1,000 metres above sea level, is one of the poorest regions in Kenya, where farming is the main activity. Finding market opportunities and knowing how to run small businesses is crucial to the success of agricultural activities.
A new Business Solution Centre is intended to provide individual entrepreneurs and small to medium-sized enterprises with the important entrepreneurial skills and support them on their way. The project primarily involves young people, 70% of whom are women.
This new project is linked to the solar project already supported by Rafiki. The initiator is the same person, Mrs Michele Ostertag, who has been working with Rafiki wa Maendeleo Trust (RWMT) since 2003 with children and young people in the rural district of Rarieda, Siaya County. We are supporting the start-up project in the expectation that the targeted and practical training will lead the small entrepreneurs to greater success and income and that the new BSC will become visible in the area as a place for independent poverty reduction.
The project will initially run for three years. Progress and impact will be monitored on an ongoing basis.
